Do you only want to watch certain classes?
If you're only interested in seeing one or two classes, or are on a budget, then our SINGLE ENTRY PASS is for you! All Marimbafest workshops can be observed passively by any non-participants for just $30 per person per workshop. You don't need to register for this option. Simply buy the SINGLE ENTRY PASS at the door of the workshop you wish to go to!
Are you only interested in the Marimba Competition?
If you just want to participate in our Open Marimba Competition and not attend any classes, our affordable COMPETITION ONLY PASS is for you! This lets you participate fully in the Competition, where you will perform solo and potentially win some prizes. Learn new things about marimba performance and composition by actively participating in all intensive masterclasses and workshops. Showcase your skills and potentially win prizes by participating in the Open Marimba Competition. Rehearse intensively with faculty and perform in public concerts alongside your fellow participants in the Marimbafest Festival Ensemble. Find out more about your playing with a private lesson with the faculty of your choice. You can do all this and more with the FESTIVAL PASS.
TICKET TERMS AND CONDITIONS
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE REGISTERING. BY REGISTERING, YOU AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING
All persons registering for any of the above Tickets are subject to the Ticket Terms and Conditions.
Anyone participating in the Competition is also subject to the Competition General Rules.
Marimbafest 2025 is operated by Adam Tan t/a Marimbafest Australia ('Marimbafest Australia') (ABN 73 174 511 591) in collaboration with the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
1. Definitions
'Ticket' = In-Person Full Participant (IFP), In-Person Competition Only (ICO), In-Person Masterclass Only (IMO), Online Full Participant (OFP), Online Competition Only (OCO), Online Masterclass Only (OMO), Competition Additional Category (CAC), 1 Class Pass (1CP).
'Holder' / 'Participant' = Anyone who holds a Ticket or combination of Tickets
'Full Participant' = A Holder of IFP or OFP
'Competition Only' = A Holder of ICO or OCO
'Masterclass Only' = A holder of IMO or OMO
'Festival' or 'Marimbafest Week' = The entire Marimbafest 2025 period (Saturday 12th July 2025 to Saturday 19th July 2025)
'Competition' = Marimbafest 2025 Solo & Ensemble Competition (Saturday 12th July 2025 to Wednesday 16th July 2025)
All Competition terms, such as 'Solo', 'Ensemble' and 'Finalist' are defined in the Competition General Rules.
'Marimbafest Team' = the Staff Team that is in charge of the direction and day-to-day running of Marimbafest 2025
'WAAPA' = The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, venue of Marimbafest 2025
'RGA' = Richard GIll Auditorium, the performance venue of Marimbafest 2025
'WAAPA Marimbafest Zone' = The area of WAAPA that is being used for Marimbafest 2025's activities (RGA, Green Room, Handa Studio and nearby connected hallways and foyers). The rest of the WAAPA campus is not being used for Marimbafest 2025.
'Executive Director' / 'Faculty Chair' = Adam Tan, Executive Director of Marimbafest 2025
2. General Ticket Rules and Usage of CAC Tickets
All Tickets, once issued, are non-refundable and non-transferrable under all circumstances except for event cancellation as detailed in section 13.
It is the Holder's responsibility to attend the Festival when required. Failure to do so for any reason will not result in refund or transfer.
Tickets cannot be exchanged for cash or for another kind of Ticket.
A single Participant can only hold one kind of the following Tickets: IFP, ICO, IMO, OFP, OCO, OMO.
Ensembles may be made up of a combination of IFP and ICO Participants (for in-person) and OFP and OCO participants (for online).
A single Participant who is participating in the Competition with IFP, OFP, ICO or OCO may purchase a CAC ticket if they wish to participate in both a solo category and ensemble category.
A CAC Ticket cannot be used on its own and is not a replacement for IFP, ICO, IMO, OFP, OCO, OMO.
CAC Tickets must be purchased in conjunction with one of the aforementioned Tickets.
As Participants may only participate in one solo category of the Competition, CAC Tickets cannot be used to participate in multiple solo categories.
In-Person Participants cannot also purchase Online tickets for either category.
Online Participants cannot also purchase In-Person tickets for either category.
Tickets do not include accommodation or food expenses, but some lunches and afternoon teas are provided for in-person FULL Participants.
Limited amenities, such as coffee, tea and snacks will be provided for in-person CASUAL Participants.
Accommodation and food must be booked and organised separately by the Participant.
Early Bird pricing expires on 15th March 2025, at which point all Ticket pricing will increase by up to 30%.
Registrations will close on 1st May 2025. No late applications will be accepted.
3. General Participation Rules
In-Person participation options are available to everyone from anywhere in the world.
Online participation options are only available for residents outside of the metropolitan Perth area, including residents of regional Western Australia, other Australian States and Territories, and overseas countries and territories.
In-Person Participants will participate at all events live in-person during Marimbafest Week within the WAAPA Marimbafest Zone.
Online Participants will participate through video submissions and Zoom for masterclasses during Marimbafest Week.
Online Participants are responsible for any potential time zone changes between their State/Territory/Country and Western Australia (GMT+8).
With the exception of relevant Competition events (e.g. live rounds and warmup/practice times), attendance to scheduled events is not enforced by the Marimbafest Team, and all Participants are responsible for what events they choose to attend.
All handouts and recordings of Marimbafest Week, including masterclasses and concerts will be made available to download by all Participants up to 14 days after the Festival's completion.
4. In-Person Full Participant (IFP) Rules
IFP Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable, and requires registration using the form.
IFP Tickets are for one person only. Members of in-person ensembles will require one (1) IFP or ICO per member.
IFP Tickets allow its Holder to become a Participant for the entirety of Marimbafest Week attended in-person at the WAAPA Marimbafest Zone.
You can only hold one (1) IFP Ticket. No other tickets may be held at the same time, except for CAC.
The IFP Holder may participate and compete in either Solo or Ensemble Category of the Competition in-person at the RGA at WAAPA.
To participate in both Solo and Ensemble categories, the IFP Holder must purchase an additional CAC Ticket as mentioned above in section 2.
The IFP Holder may participate in-person at all activities during Marimbafest Week at the WAAPA Marimbafest Area for the entirety of Marimbafest Week.
The IFP Holder will be able to access all in-person amenities, including complimentary lunches and receptions on certain days.
The IFP Holder will receive their prizes (if won) and gifts in-person.
5. Online Full Participant (OFP) Rules
OFP Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable, and requires registration using the form.
OFP Tickets are for one person only. Members of online ensembles will require one (1) OFP or OCO per member.
OFP Tickets allow its Holder to become a Participant for the entirety of Marimbafest Week attended online via Zoom.
You can only hold one (1) OFP Ticket. No other tickets may be held at the same time, except for CAC.
The OFP Holder may participate and compete in either Solo or Ensemble Category of the Competition via video submission and Zoom.
To participate in both Solo and Ensemble categories, the IFP Holder must purchase an additional CAC Ticket as mentioned above in section 2.
The OFP Holder may participate online at all activities during Marimbafest Week and will have full access to all online resources.
The OFP Holder will receive their prizes (if won) and gifts through shipping and online methods.
6. In-Person Competition Only (ICO) Rules
ICO Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable, and requires registration using the form.
ICO Tickets are for one person only. Members of in-person ensembles will require one (1) IFP or ICO per member.
ICO Tickets allow its Holder to become a Participant for the Competition half of Marimbafest Week (Saturday 12th July 2025 to Wednesday 16th July 2025) attended in-person at the WAAPA Marimbafest Zone.
You can only hold one (1) ICO Ticket. No other tickets may be held at the same time, except for CAC and 1CP.
The ICO Holder may participate and compete in either Solo or Ensemble Category of the Competition in-person at the RGA at WAAPA.
To participate in both Solo and Ensemble categories, the ICO Holder must purchase an additional CAC Ticket as mentioned above in section 2.
The ICO Holder may only participate in-person at all Competition-related activities in the above time period, and may not participate in the masterclasses held during Thursday 17th July 2025 to Saturday 19th July 2025 without the use of 1CP Tickets.
The ICO Holder will be able to access all in-person amenities, including complimentary lunches and receptions during the Competition half of Marimbafest Week.
The ICO Holder will receive their prizes (if won) and gifts in-person.
7. Online Competition Only (OCO) Rules
OCO Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable, and requires registration using the form.
OCO Tickets are for one person only. Members of online ensembles will require one (1) OFP or OCO per member.
OCOTickets allow its Holder to become a Participant for the Competition half of Marimbafest Week (Saturday 12th July 2025 to Wednesday 16th July 2025) attended online via Zoom.
You can only hold one (1) OCO Ticket. No other tickets may be held at the same time, except for CAC.
The OCO Holder may participate and compete in either Solo or Ensemble Category of the Competition online via video submission.
To participate in both Solo and Ensemble categories, the ICO Holder must purchase an additional CAC Ticket as mentioned above in section 2.
The OCO Holder may only participate online at all Competition-related activities in the above time period, and may not participate in the masterclasses held during Thursday 17th July 2025 to Saturday 19th July 2025 without the use of 1CP Tickets.
The OCO Holder will have full access to all online resources for the Competition half of Marimbafest Week, but not the masterclass half.
The OCO Holder will receive their prizes (if won) and gifts through shipping and online methods.
8. One Class Pass (1CP) Rules
1CP Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable, and do not require registration.
1CP Tickets are only available at the door on the day of masterclasses.
1CP Tickets are for one (1) person who would like to passively participate in a single masterclass of the person's choice.
The 1CP Holder does not have to nominate which masterclass they wish to participate in and can just arrive at the class they wish to attend.
1CP Tickets are only valid for one (1) single masterclass of the ten (10) masterclasses offered between Thursday 17th July 2025 and Saturday 19th July 2025.
You can hold up to 10 1CP Tickets simultaneously, and can hold them whilst also holding an ICO Ticket.
All other non-ICO Participants cannot use 1CP Tickets.
The 1CP Holder cannot participate in any Competition related activities, other than observing the public segments as an audience member.
The 1CP Holder may participate as an observer in-person at the selected masterclasses during Marimbafest week within the WAAPA Marimbafest Area.
All other free public initiatives, e.g. Marimbafest Shop and the free concerts, are available to 1CP Holders.
The 1CP Holder has access to some amenities (e.g. tea, coffee and snacks) during the week, but not dedicated lunches.
The 1CP Holder will not receive any gifts or prizes unless they already hold an ICO Ticket.
9. Obsolete Tickets
Ticket options from Marimbafest events prior to 2025 that have been removed and/or consolidated into other tickets above are as follows:
All CASUAL Participation options, including IC and OC. These have been renamed to IMO and OMO and improved.
All separate SOLO and ENSEMBLE Participation options, including ISP, OSP, IEP and OEP. These have been consolidated into the simpler IFP and OFP tickets.
1IC has now been renamed to 1CP.
All Faculty, Staff and Participants will use the new Ticket methods above for Marimbafest 2025.
10. Age Limits and Accompanying Persons
IFP, OFP, ICO and OCO Participants must not be older than 35 years of age as at 1st January 2025. IMO and OMO Participants may be of any age.
Participants under the age of 18 who are attending in-person (including IFP, ICO and IMO) will be permitted to have one (1) parent or guardian present with them throughout Marimbafest's participant-exclusive activities (e.g. masterclasses, amenities, warmup and soundcheck sessions).
For the Receptions, Full Participants under 18 may bring up to two (2) parents and/or guardians.
Participants who are under 18 but do not need parental supervision must ensure they sign a duty of care waiver upon registration.
11. Media Release For All Attendees
Whilst in public areas of the WAAPA Marimbafest Area (RGA, Green Room and Handa Studio), all Attendees, including Participants, Faculty, Staff and members of the public agree to being photographed or videographed during Marimbafest Week.
The submission of a Ticket Registration Form is considered your consent to the taking and release for photographs and videos, and this consent cannot be removed or withdrawn without prior written notice.
By entering the RGA, audience members consent to being filmed or photographed whilst watching concerts.
Photos and videos will be used for marketing purposes, including Marimbafest's social media (e.g. Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and this website) and other print media (e.g. posters and flyers).
Photos and videos that do not make it to public platforms will be deleted after the Festival's completion.
12. Ticket Holder's Good Standing
Marimbafest Australia reserves the right to void or cancel any Participant's Ticket (in-person and/or online) if they are deemed to be engaging in
disrespectful, disruptive, unlawful, abusive, threatening or any other offensive behaviour during or before the Festival.
Any individuals seen to be engaging in disrespectful, disruptive, unlawful, abusive, threatening or any other offensive behaviour towards any party
will be subject to immediate removal from the Festival, with any criminal offences being pursued through the appropriate authorities.
Any individuals seen to be engaging in the above described behaviour on the Festival's online platforms will be permanently banned from the Festival's online services by the Marimbafest Team.
All campus property of WAAPA and its associated staff, students and personnel must be treated with care. Any damages to instruments, furniture and/or other equipment by Participants or any other attendees will result in legal action to recover damages through the appropriate channels.
Personal belongings brought to the WAAPA campus and WAAPA Marimbafest Zone are the responsibility of its owners.
Marimbafest Australia and the Marimbafest Team waives the right to any responsibility for theft, loss and damage to personal belongings.
13. Cancellation and No-Show
If a Ticket Holder does not show up to all events, they are not entitled to any refund or discount.
Cancellations will not result in a refund given unless in the circumstances listed below.
The Festival may also be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, such as natural disaster, man-made emergency etc. In this situation, where the event is unable to continue, refunds will be given by the Marimbafest Team.
14. Privacy and Information
Any personal or private information submitted through confidential channels to the Marimbafest Team (e.g. any registration forms, individual email correspondence) will only be viewed by Marimbafest Team members.
All personal and/or private information will only be stored securely for the duration of the Festival, and will be deleted upon completion of the Festival.
15. Other Conditions
Marimbafest Australia reserves the right to amend any of the above terms and conditions as required.
Marimbafest Australia takes no responsibility for any damages or adverse action caused by Participants whilst at the WAAPA campus.
Marimbafest Australia is only responsible for activities and events that happen within the WAAPA Marimbafest Zone.
All travel bookings, accommodation plans and other transport must be organised by the Participant, and is not the responsibility of Marimbafest Australia or the Staff Team.
Any activities or events that happen outside of the WAAPA Marimbafest Zone are the responsibility of their respective organisers.
Any disputes about the above terms and conditions will be resolved through consultation with the Executive Director and associated parties.
