If you're only interested in seeing one or two classes, or are on a budget, then our SINGLE ENTRY PASS is for you! All Marimbafest workshops can be observed passively by any non-participants for just $30 per person per workshop. You don't need to register for this option. Simply buy the SINGLE ENTRY PASS at the door of the workshop you wish to go to!

If you just want to participate in our Open Marimba Competition and not attend any classes, our affordable COMPETITION ONLY PASS is for you! This lets you participate fully in the Competition, where you will perform solo and potentially win some prizes. At the age of 7, Sarah began learning and playing percussion at J Percussion Music School. She has since participated in various music competitions such as the Beenleigh Quota Eisteddfod, the Australian Percussion Eisteddfod and Musica Viva and have received awards both as a soloist and as an ensemble member. She is currently working towards completing AMEB Grade 7, and is involved in multiple ensembles within her music school. She is the Percussion Leader at her high school where she learns drumkit and plays percussion in 6 ensembles.

Ben has been playing drums for most of his life and started percussion lessons with Mr Iain Robbie in year 7. He is now a year 12 ATAR music student at Willetton Senior High School playing in his school’s percussion ensemble, concert band and jazz band and is a member of the Western Australian Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. Ben is also enjoying the challenge of building a 5-octave marimba for his final year 12 material design and technology project.

Monica studies the ATAR music program at her current school, and have been principal percussionist in the school band for 3 years. Monica has played with WA Wind Symphony, and has future performances with West Coast Philharmonic Orchestra.
Monica plans to attend university next year and study percussion.

Theo has been an active member of J Percussion Music School's program since a young age. He has also been an active member of ensembles at school and various state-wide music programs such as the State Honours Ensemble Program. As a solo performer, he has won several awards in the Beenleigh Quota, Queensland Percussive Arts, Australian Percussion Eisteddfods. He has also been awarded prizes for his work as an ensemble performer in Musica Viva's Strike A Chord competition, as well as eisteddfods around Australia.

Gabrielle Lee is a Perth-based percussionist and composer, working also in orchestral management. Gabby has performed with several orchestras including the Australian Youth Orchestra NMC, WAAPA Symphony Orchestra and in the orchestral pit for the WAAPA opera productions, the West Coast Philharmonic Orchestra, and the West Australian Youth Orchestra.

Ethan has been passionate about percussion since being introduced through Ju Percussion Music School in Taiwan at a young age. Ethan is a member of the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble for the Young Conservatorium at Griffith University. Ethan has been awarded prizes, both as a soloist as well as an ensemble member in the Beenleigh Quota Eisteddfod, Australian percussion Eisteddfod and Musica Viva Strike A Chord competition. Ethan aims to complete the AMEB Grade 7 examination by the end of this year.

Hamish Macdonald has been playing music since the age of 6. Across this time, he has always enjoyed exploring many different styles and genres. Hamish has been intrigued by learning new instruments which has led him to learn piano, guitar, trumpet and percussion, being his primary instrument. Under the tutelage of Jesse Vivante, Hamish has been learning percussion for 5 years at Wesley College in South Perth, and he enjoys percussion for its diverse range of sounds and textures.

Tayla Rattray is a Perth-based percussionist, teacher and performer whose time as a musician over the years has allowed her gain a wide range of musical experience and skills.
Tayla is apart of a number of ensembles around Perth including the WA Youth Orchestra, Defying Gravity and the WA Wind Symphony. Some of Tayla's most memorable moments include performing Steve Reichs’ ‘Drumming’ (2019), competing in the Generations in Jazz festival in South Australia and more recently being apart of the online concert ‘Defying Gravity Flies Solo’ reaching an audience of over 26,000.

Laura has been a member of many musical
groups, both orchestral and contemporary.
Orchestrally, she has performed with the
West Australian Youth Orchestra, West
Coast Philharmonic and the
WAAPA Symphony Orchestra. She also
performs regularly with the percussion
ensemble Defying Gravity, playing a large

Zac Skelton has been playing percussion for
little over 6 years. His percussion playing began as he taught himself how to play triangle and other auxiliary percussion with community orchestras and bands such as Classic Sounds Orchestra and Armadale City Concert Band. Now studying percussion at Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Zac is very much looking forward to what his degree will teach him, and
where his career will take him.

Chloe has been passionate about music since a young age. Chloe has participated in various competitions such as the Beenleigh Quota Eisteddfod, Queensland Percussive Arts Eisteddfod, Australian Percussion Eisteddfod, along with Musica Viva’s Strike A Chord. Not only has she won several awards across these events, but the stage also became a place she loved. Chloe also immerses herself in the Instrumental music program at school, as an avid member of the percussion ensemble, symphonic band and symphony orchestra. After being awarded with a distinction in AMusA last year, she hopes to continue growing as a percussionist –– further fuelling her musical journey with Marimbafest experiences.

Cara Daily is an emerging orchestral percussionist, who has been extensively involved in both Conservatorium orchestras and the Australian Youth Orchestras. Cara has been a part of the percussion scene in Brisbane for seven years now, as a performer, teacher and listener. During her time at the Queensland Conservatorium, Cara was guided by five of Australia's most renowned percussionists; Professor Vanessa Tomlinson, Tom O'Kelly, Nozomi Omote, Michael Askill and Brent Miller.

Joey Eng is a freelance percussionist and composer based in Perth, Western Australia. As a soloist, Joey was a semi-finalist in the 2020 WAAPA Warana Concerto Competition, a semi-finalist in the inaugural 2019 Marimbafest solo marimba
competition and was a performer for the 23rd Performing Arts Perspectives in 2019.

Steven Hartley is a freelance percussionist, multifaceted composer, and educator based in Perth, Western Australia. Steven has performed with orchestras such as the West Australian Youth Orchestra, West Coast Philharmonic, and WAAPA Symphonic Orchestra, as well as wind bands such as the West Australian Wind Symphony, and Symphonic Wind Ensemble. As well as large scale ensembles, Steven also plays in more intimate ensemble settings with the Seven Seas world music Ensemble, the multi-award winning Defying Gravity Percussion Ensemble, and Subito Percussion for which he has many pieces in the works.

Daniel first began his musical journey with piano, completing up to AMEB grade 5, he later started his percussion journey in 2017. Over the past 4 years he has competed in various competitions such as the Beenleigh quota eisteddfod, Australian percussion eisteddfod and more recently the Music Viva Strike a Chord chamber music competition. In these competition he has won many awards both as a soloist and group member. Daniel is currently working towards completing AMEB grade 8. In his high school, he participates in wind orchestras and percussion ensembles.

Grace Kruger is a Brisbane-based percussionist and educator. Kerrie has competed and won various awards in the Australian Percussion Eisteddfod, Queensland Symphony Orchestra Young Instrumentalist Prize, Queensland Percussive Arts Eisteddfod and Musica Viva's Strike A Chord. Last year, Kerrie was awarded her AMusA with distinction and is currently working towards her LMusA diploma. Moreover, Kerrie is an active member of various ensembles including the Queensland Youth Symphony and Australian Youth Orchestra. Later this year, Kerrie will be attending Princeton University on scholarship, where she hopes to study philosophy and music performance.

Cassandra started AMEB piano in primary school and absolutely hated it, and really only practised to finish all 8 grades as quickly as possible. It was her piano background that got her into percussion in Yr7. After her ATAR Music journey I had to decide between doing Medical + Sport Science at UWA and continue competitive swimming or going to WAAPA for percussion, it was a tough decision but she is now doing what she loves.
KALEAH SCANLON

A recipient of the Sir Samuel Griffith Scholarship and runner up in the 2019 and 2020 Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Snare Drum Award, Kaleah is currently completing a Bachelor of Music at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. Coming up this year, Kaleah is looking forward to supporting Australian music royalty Paul Kelly and Missy Higgins at Sandstone Point Hotel, as well as playing at Splendour in the Grass. Alongside her adventures in the contemporary music scene, Kaleah enjoys performing with ensembles such as Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, Brisbane Symphony Orchestra and Australian Youth Orchestra.

Recently completing her Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, Mikaela is currently taking further study to attain a Bachelor in Performance. Mikaela’s passion for chamber music has seen her work with Clocked Out, an ensemble in residence at the Queensland Conservatorium, Expressions Dance Company where she accompanied the choreography of award-winning Stephanie Lake and recently formed Duo Provocative Vibrations. Mikaela has played at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, the Tyalgum Music Festival, the Queensland Music Festival Opera at Jimbour House, the Australian Percussion Gathering and the APRA award winning Piano Mill.
